For years, the decision was simple: if you wanted the best performance, camera, and display, you bought the flagship. But in 2024, the gap between a $1,000+ “ultra” device and a $500 mid-range contender has narrowed significantly. The premium experience is still there, but is it worth double the price?
Flagships, like the sleek model on the left in our comparison (Image 0), offer uncut specifications: the fastest processors, dynamic 120Hz LTPO displays, and versatile multi-lens camera systems that excel in low light. These are devices built for power users and mobile photographers who demand the absolute best and are willing to pay for it.
However, the mid-range device (like the blue model on the right) has become incredibly competent. Devices in this segment now routinely feature bright OLED screens and main cameras that use the same computational photography trickery as their pricier siblings. Unless you are editing 4K video on your phone or shooting 10x optical zoom shots of a concert, the mid-ranger delivers 90% of the daily user experience. For most local consumers looking to maximize value, the choice is no longer obvious.
